Fitting an accumulator to my system - is it a DIY job?

Or do you need a G3 ticket?

I've got a unvented cylinder providing an adequate supply at the moment. Shower pressure drops slightly when a tap is opened but it's fine.

However, I'm adding a new bathroom and the family is growing, and from what I've read an accumulator tank is the way to maintain pressure.

Is it just a case of teeing these in to the cold supply that feeds the unvented cylinder? Guessing there's more to it.

Cheers

Accumulator only needed where the supply cannot handle the demand. It is also only maintains that pressure till it's spent and then reverts to mains until it recharges itself. Get a plumber experienced in advanced water systems to perform a survey and advise.

Thanks Madrab.

I think there's one part of the installation that diagram does not cover, and that's setting the pressure on the accumulator. It has to be lower than your mains pressure (to be filled up), but high enough to give you the boost you are looking for. And the volume of water the accumulator can accommodate is governed by this pressure.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with it and what it's performance is like. It's on my future list of desirable things to have, although I'd be having it professionally fitted.

Indeed fezster. After obsessively researching them yesterday I now feel pretty comfortable with a DIY install.

Unfortunately, before researching, I expected to fork out for a 200-250 litre tank, but after discovering that a large proportion of the capacity is taken up by air, I'll probably need a 450-500l tank. A bit too expensive for now :)
