Fitting Fascias

I bet lots of building workers in their 40's and 50's would love to go back to their 20 year old selves and slap them with various items of PPE.

I'd tell myself to get the work trousers with knee pad slots from the bottom (or side), and not with poxy flaps at the top
Is that cos the pads don't stay in place?

The building trade is not for you. I wear ear defenders a lot.
Possibly, if I dont need to communicate with anyone or much e.g working by myself there's not a problem as I always wear them. Do you always wear them even when talking to people?

I guess the dust from cedral cladding isnt great for you, do you guys wash your trousers every day? I've been keeping work clothes in a separate cupboard to my normal clothes, but when tired just stuck dusty ones back in there.

Cedral is a cement fibre board. According to the manufacturers "It is a sustainable material made of cement, cellulose, sand, synthetic fibres and water, allowing for strong and high-performance cladding that adds value to your home.". What that means to you is that it is hard on tools (I tend to use PCD diamond blades on it), it will coat you in cement dust each and every day and it isn't brilliant stuff to breath all day long, especially if there is no vacuum on the saw (so you need a face-fitted mask, like a JSP Force 8, when cutting it).

Personally I keep a couple of pairs of half decent trousers and sweat shirts for "clean" tasks, such as post-hand-over snagging (where you can end up meeting the customer), but I also keep 3 pairs of older trousers and 3 older sweat shirts for "dirty" tasks, like demolition, heavy repair works and cutting stuff like cement board. The "dirty" clothes generally get worn for the day only and then get washed. Having 3 sets means I never run out of clean clothes. Same goes for gloves - multiple pairs with a fresh pair on every 1 to 3 days depending on how mucky they are. I've also learned the hard way to carry a spare pair of socks, an old pair of jeans/work trousers and a towel - you never know when you are going to get an accidental soaking and I hate being wet

Wear some blue disposable overalls - type 5/6 which are better than the normal crappy white ones.
