Hi,
After some advice or tips on adding a rail to my existing deck.
The deck was already here when i bought the house and has a foundation made up of what looks like a mix of breeze block and brick. Its not the best job but seems solid for the most part. They have anchored batten to this foundation and screwed deck boards down.
Would it be OK/safe to rebate the newel posts and anchor them to a solid part of the foundation whether that be brick or breeze block?
Another issue is that the foundation isnt square. So the actual deck boards are all 2.4m lengths but at one end, the foundation is 2.4m and gradually reduces to about 2.3m (the deck is 8m wide) so I have an approx 10cm overhang. Should I fix some timber to the foundation first to bring it level with the end of the boards and fix the newel post to this timber?
Hope that makes sense.
