Pending delivery of my nice new on-site guide to the IEE regs, could someone tell me what is the correct and acceptable method of extending the ring circuit and lighting circuit tails so that I can connect them to a new consumer unit? Are those little plastic connecting blocks OK? (I used to know them as choc blocks). Or is there a special connection thingy?

you should use a jb (junction box) as choc bloc will be exposed when used (if you see what i mean) and obviously use the correct size for the cable.

you are actually supposed to use crimp connectors
