This is a bit random but has anyone had an absolute mother of a headache from bitumen paints? I've been doing some flat roof repair outdoors, applied primer first which gave me a headache so I purchased an organic gas half respirator for the next part - assumed it was pretty effective, couldn't smell a thing - using the blackjack felt adhesive and bitumen paint and tonight I'm on the floor, headache, nausea - is this an extreme reaction or is this really nasty stuff?

Read the SDS for product used.

Yes can be nasty stuff, especially if inhaled.

There are most likely exposure limits for the product and you should consult a physician!

It may be that you have an allergic reaction to something in the materials. If it is a small molecule vapour then a mask may not prevent it being inhaled.

Allergies can be be very strange.

Most people can eat peanuts without any obvious reaction but for a few people the reaction to peanuts can be severe and in some case life threatening.

I don't believe migraine is an allergic reaction, but solvents vapours can certainly trigger them.

I painted the inside of a steel tank with rapiddry primer then bitumen paint (had to cut a hatch to climb in)
I got high off the primer, sadly no such luck with the bitumen paint. :sneaky:

Cheers all. Yeah I thought it was odd - this wasn't a huge extensive job, rather a couple of 30 min sessions outdoors with an A1P2 mask so I'm fairly sure I haven't been excessively exposed. Some people can't drink red wine, I guess for me it's bitumen primer!
Sadly not quite finished the job, maybe dig out the electric fan...

Might it be due to being outdoors, working in the sun? I get headaches if I spend too long exposed to the sun.
