hi if anyone can help would be over the moon.

i have a ford fiesta 1998 (R) mk4 and it is leaking in the boot. I have tracked down where the water is coming into the car but cannot for the life of me find out where the entry point is!!

Next to the boot catch (on the actual boot door) there is a small whole (factory hole not one that has been done by any owner) and thats where the water is coming in. Originally i thought it was coming in around the spoiler bolts but i have had this taken off and rebolted and sealed.

This leaves me to think its coming in round the rubber seal on the glass but it seems to be in good condition.

any ideas?????

Rubber around the widows is a favourite for this problem.
They may look good but the water will seep through any flaw.

Test it out by using a gentle spray from the hose pipe.

If you want your car to look like showroom condition, you may need to get a new seal. If you don't care, then buy some black silicon, using the nozzle "As is" (Don't cut a bigger hole in it) squirt some all round, but under the seal (Between seal and glass).
remove excess with a lot of kitchen roll. Obviously, wait until the seal/window is dry before starting the silicon, or dry the area with a hairdryer, pull back the seal a bit. DON'T use a paint remover type hairdryer, it'll shatter the glass.
I did this repair to my Ford front windscreen, it stopped a major leak which happened to drip onto fuse box. Major design fault with older Escorts/Orions.

thanks for the reply. Will give this a go this weekend and report back......!

I would seal around between the seal and the frame, capillary action will draw liquid between touching faces and could make a path between the seal and in between the door skins as they are only spot welded around the window frame. Have you a rear wash wipe, if so water may be coming from that and getting in that way. If you still have a problem trying to locate the ingress, tape some tissue into the door and then spray with water in may give you a better indication.

Andy - just a thought - isn't the small hole next to the boot lock a drainage hole and the water between the tailgate and the seal would run to this point. If this was blocked it would give the impression that the water was coming in from there.

Sorry if have missed the point

hi

no joy.

I had the spolier taken off and resealed

then had the window seal , sealed up .

i for the life of me cant find where it is coming in!

i took it to ford (wanted £75) just to examine it! so didnt bother

if your looking for the cheapest way out - go to a scrap yard and get another boot door and get it resprayed.

i have to put a boot liner in to collect all the water! the car is getting sold!!!!!!!

if you find out what it is please do let me know

good luck

A lad at work had a look for me and thinks it may be the rubber seals at the hinge where you open the boot. This right at the top of the car on the outside. They are only exposed when you open the boot but when water runs down it could seep in. We have pushed these back in and as yet no water. It is only one day and it has only spitted with rain !!

Take it from me its sometimes better the devil you know i had an old rover400 prior to this as a runaround. Everything went wrong under the bonnet. Wife's mates husband works in a car repair center and he has promised to look at it will let you know...
