Freedom of Information Act

Has anyone on here used the FoIA to try to obtain information?. I have contacted ITV three times to try to find out the percentage on on-line entrants who have entered competitions such as Dickensons Real Deal , and actualy won. It strikes me that entrants who either phone or text are the only ones who win because they are paying for the privilage where on-line entrants such as myself have no chance at all. ITV say it is ' confidential information ' and not covered by the act. And yet the very same act released details about Police officers criminal records!. It is bizarre that truly confidential information can be released and yet for a silly TV show , they can't. Incidently , I refuse to phone or text due to the obscene charges.

If private companies were obliged to tell you privileged information under the act then the likes of coca cola would have to tell anyone who asked what their "secret ingredient" was....and that ain't gonna happen.

And McDonalds would have to tell us how they manage to make all of their so called food taste like rehydrated cardboard and how the hell they capture kids with such tasteless junk. It really does amaze me that kids love the place.

There is a big difference between asking what crap is put into food or drink and in which way a competition has been won. You can't compare the two IMO. It doesn't matter what garbage is put into food , the fact is we will still continue to buy it and companies know this. I personaly don't believe some of the scare stories about food. I think it is a marketing ploy by some big companies to get people to ditch cheaper foods for the more expensive that has more so-called healthier ingredients and they charge accordingly.

Under the freedom of information act I demand you inform me of your credit card number and security code.
 
The FOI act is to encourage transparency in Public Authorities / Bodies / Companies.

The BBC would have to respond as they are a public company, but ITV are privately owned so are not subject to the act.

There are exemptions that mean certain information can be withheld but a reply to that effect would have to be given along with a reason for relying on the exemption.

If it would take more than 15 hours ( I think) to gather the information, they can refuse to provide.

In any case when requesting info under the Act, a charge can be made (I think this is about £10).

Companies are only fulfilling demand. If consumers tastes change, then so will the product.

Money and profits always prevail. :(
