I turned off the Channel Update feature and the problem went away.
I tried that a few days ago and it seems to create another problem...
On one LG model it 'forgets' channels that were successfully tuned in before and on another LG set it appears to need to to be told where it is in the world, every time it is turned on - so it lists my areas channels.
