Anyone else noticed how this forum is an excellent example of Freud's 'therories'? - i.e. all of our issues are revolved around repressed sexual ideas. (in short: Can I eat it?, can it eat me?, can I sh@g it?, will it sh@g me?)

Well, I am a more of believer in Behaviourism, although I do think that Freud's work is very significant in many areas. I do think that any society that represses people through censorship or rules/regulation will lead to a person fighting with their 'natural' internal desires. (just look at how the effects of censorship on this forum evokes certain reactions )

However, I believe that the person's prior experiences and skills (and even genetics) are more what determine the outcomes in relation to the person's reactions, rather than the 'stages' we get 'stuck in' described by Freud :)

I believe that sexual tension definately governs much of life.
On simple levels and complex levels.
certainly when looking at judicial results.
Physical looks can have good and bad results when looking at for example employment success.
Good looking people get preferential treatment etc etc though they can get bullied through envy.

but freud... I feel is flawed.

Yeah, I totally agree with your words about jobs and looks. Also, taller people tend to be more successful in finding jobs. Judicial results also show that less handsome people tend to be proven guilty more often

I'm alright then - no problem with finding job or being proven innocent

I suspect that much of this might be more down to society's portrayal of people - especially through advertising and film making - usually using the flawless beauty as the 'good' person. So, people then associate 'beauty' with good

He gave up psychotherapy and created a range of power tools. (not that type Toffee)

Wasn't that DeWalt - the lesser know psychoanalyst?

yes, he had extremist views which unfortunately diluted a lot of credible findings.
I feel he had blinkered views, based on personal views and upbringing and what he wanted to find.

Is that not the down fall of a human ,They start of with a theory then try and find evidence to back it up and if they look hard enough they will find it.Once this evidence is presented to the wider world it is accepted ,until obiously someone else comes along with their theory and evidence to disprove the previous theory and so it goes on :)
