My general specification for external cavity walls - to meet 0.18 Uvalue - is 100 brick, 150mm cavity with full fill cavity batts, 100mm airtec standard 3.6N block (0.11 w/m.k)
I also specify thermabate insulated cavity closers to all window and door reveals.
A builder has come to me and said that he just closes the cavity with 11mm osb board on DPC as the 150mm full fill insualtion does the job of avoiding cold bridging and there is no need for a thermabate cavity closer.
It has made me think about it a bit more, and i drew a detail and it does seem that to get the thermabate in you stop the insulation 25mm short and then put the thermabate in and replace the 25mm insulation with 25mm insulation attached to the cavity closer.
Any thoughts on that?
