Hello all
I am going to build a small workshop shortly. This will be a 9 by 7 foot board and batten build. I wish to return to an old hobby of mine, casting small figures and chess pieces in white metel/lead and pewter.
I will need to install an extractor fan to draw off the toxic fumes.
Does anyone have an idea as to where I can buy or build one myself.

My first post, trying the water so to speak.

I would be gratefull for any assistence.
Thank you CliffC

Hello moderator 11
Thank you for your prompt reply, Silly me, I was not very clear. Sorry.
I meant a fume extractor. Grateful for any advice or constructive comments.

I would consider a standard fan as used in any bathroom would do the job. I noted at University the extractors were nothing special although rather industrial looking I would guess due to distance. If you need something on a soldering iron then I would consider a vacuum cleaner.
We needed to suck water out of concrete while pressing and traditionally we used a Pnewvac but found we could buy the motors and centrifuge used in industrial vacuum cleaners on their own and these were cheaper to run and with some suitable housing worked well.

6 inch vent axia should do the job, bathroom fans are too feeble for the task.

Hello ericmark
Thank you for your reply, I have been thinking along the same lines myself. I will be using a standard electric 'Meltpot' to melt the metal to its (pour) heat.
I was thinking of making a hood similar to a cooker hood to channel the fumes up and away through the side wall of the shed.

Much food for thought! Thank you very much.

Hello Foxhole,
Thank you for your reply and suggestion.
I think that I have some more research to carry out. A bathroom ventair or 6 inch vent axia sounds good. Built into a hood it should carry the noxious fume away to the atmosphere.
I shall be starting my shed build the summer quite looking forward to it

Thank you very much

60 litres per second will give decent extraction wouldn't consider anything less and not expensive.
