I was going to say east-west, then I thought that dust won't accumulate in the slots if they're north-south.

I'll go round my house next weekend and redo all mine.

Are you serious? They should be tightened up the right amount, not under tightened or over tightened to look nice in a cupboard where people rarely go.

Sockets screws should be north south. Moisture that accumulates runs off. Morgan cars do the same.

You thought wrong. They are to hold two things together. If you want them to "look nice" (in a cupboard where no one looks for goodness sake) use something like torx screws.
