On another note - does anyone know if there are and how to find precut holes in metal studs?
Trying to find a way to get cables across a stud to fix my switch and light in a reasonable location.
This is all in an understairs cupboard by the way.

If you remove the socket back box you might be able to see with the aid of a small torch and inspection mirror.

If you find a pre-cut hole in a stud, you need to be certain the cable will be within a safe zone.
If you can get the drill in, drill a hole with a 20mm holesaw, and use a 20mm grommet.
