All the Joiners where I work use Paslode Gas Nailers, used them myself a good few times and find them a good tool to work with. Not used any other type of Gas Nailer but have used the compressed air type and I would take the Gas ones every time.

look at the new bostitch gas nailers - cheaper and more powerful than paslode with twice the warranty
Air guns are more powerful , need less care and the nails are half the price of gas nailers - but you have to drag a compressor round !!

They all work well.

Other factors will determine which is "best" for the individual

I have a p700 paslode (Spit pulsa) gas gun. It will put a 20mm nail into a 12" RSJ, thou we used it for putting steel mesh onto walls/render/brick. The gas is dated, so need to be bought when needed, and you always run out of gas before the nail pack runs out. Box of nails and gas is about £45 (varies), and mine has been in sefrvice for 3 yrs with one major service. Air powered, OK but that compressor issue is a pain. (Though the air is cheaper). Few Spit Pulsa machineson e-bay, but if buying gas, ask the sell by date.

I've got 2 paslodes. a framing gun and a brad nailer, they are both fantastic. I thought the framing nailer was a bit of a luxury at the time, but I'd be lost without it now.
