Anybody done this?

Mrs Secure fancies it. Just wondered if anyone could recommend a good GPS unit?

Garmin e-trex h is the one I'm looking at.

app for a mobile?

and for those not in the know ( me included, had to look it up )...

geocacheing is / are a treasure hunt using GPS coordinates and clues to locate real hidden containers..

you sign the logbook, look at the items within ( if placed ) and return it to it's location.... to be done without the notice of "muggles" so that they won't come and ruin it by nicking it..

it's basically a more fun way of going for a walk and exploring a place since they are hidden on walks and near points of interest..

Can be very addictive! People practise this pastime for a variety of reasons.

I used to do it as a way of getting out for some exercise, unfortunately Mrs Js health prevents her from getting out and I don't like to go alone.

Have a look at or even join the forum (link below) and you will get all of your questions answered.

I have a very basic Garmin GPS 60 and it has worked well for me. Others want more sophisticated devices, depends how much you want to spend I suppose.

Also known as "letterboxing" I've stumbled upon a few here, a plastic box under a rock with a little book and a stamp, I left a message and put them back in their hiding place, I googled it and discovered that there are several around the islands.
