Getting a megaflo but should I also change the boiler?

You do have to keep topping it up with salt, and they do affect the flow rate.

The bigger unit you buy, the less impact it will have on performance. As ever, you pays your money and takes your choice.

Yes you would have to top up the rock salt every now and then and you shouldnt notice a flow difference with the appliances !!

What part of Luton are you?

Wigmore.

So what are we saying? Fit another flowmax thermal store but this time with a water softener. Got to say that is quite appealing as I do like the flowmax and that it is basically maintenance free. What’s the running costs of having to buy salt? Are we talking say more than £50 a year?

I had a neighbour who had a new flowmax fitted. The holes in the new tank did not line up with the old tank so there was quite a bit of new pipe work required but he is happy. Still don’t know whether I should change the boiler what ever solution I go for and change the tank for a Megaflo/Unistor/Flowmax. Anyway guys once again I really do appreciate everyone’s input.

Would be a lot cheaper than a megaflow thats for sure, and the softener would do the whole house apart from a drinking tap so all appliances would be protected !!

Ya only 1 mile from me ,, Round Green here !!

You should still consider a good combi ;)

I have issues with a combi. The main one being that I don’t fancy having the upstairs hall carpet lifted as it is brand new to get to the existing pipe work where the tank is located, which would be removed . Plumber one who suggested the Vaillant boiler with the megaflo said that I could have a combi and not have the carpets lifted by tapping into the sink pipe work in the utility room where the boiler is located. As the pipe work there is only 15mm I was thinking that the water pressure upstairs might not be that good.

I know that a combi is a cheap solution but is it really for me when I have got used to hot water in 5 seconds at a flow rate that makes a combi seem like a dripping tap.

As for a Flowmax being cheaper than a megaflow, are you sure? I just had a quick look at some prices and they make the megaflo seem like a bargin.
