I had similar thing with some tiny wooden splinters. The doctor said that if left alone they would in time work themselves up the surface.
Usually.

V IMPORTANT DIY ADVICE:

If ever you get a metal splinter do not try that, as it will not work its way out, and often will work its way deeper in.

You went to the doctor to show him your bum?

yes... it might not be pleasant but he gets paid to do it.

ban, whats the right thing to do with a metal splinter? A while ago, i was involved in several shop re-fits and working with brand new metal shelf sections is hazardous work, i'll tell you. tiny shards of metal all over the new shelf sections, and bare metal edges. No gloves were provided  but then again, none of the shop fitters wore gloves. Kept getting TINY bits of metal in my fingertips, and it does hurt majorly when you put pressure on it!!

1) Don't get them....

2) Go out and buy a pair.....

3) If they are still there, get ye to a medical practitioner and have them removed. At the time could you have dug them out with a (sterilised) needle, or pair of tweezers?

i think i ended up jabbing at it with my name badge pin on my lunch break. the pain went away so i think i must have got it out.

and why is that??
If you had gotten loads of splinters in your hands that you couldnt get out and prevented you from being able to do everyday tasks wouldnt you go the doctor.. especially if you were worried that they may get infected?

It is matter less whether it is my backside or face or hands!!!

or just too stubborn or embarrassed to show your bottom cheeks ...

like when men wont ask for directions and would rather get lost.

I would rather get my bottom looked at than it get infected!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose it will depend on how deep, etc but I've always had success with Magnesium Sulphate paste. It can be bought cheaply from any chemist - just spread it over the area, put lint or guaze over it and tape on. Check if any of the metal has started to 'pop out' the next day. I suspect that if it's been in there for a while, you'll need to repeat the use of the paste for a while to get it to work up and out.

Yup, Gary's right but also if you soak the affected area in hot water first it should speed thing up a little

If the splinter doesn't come out after a couple of days then pop along to see the GP or the practice nurse :D
