glowplug resistance, inc loss of steering- New battery?

The electric power steering on the Astra will seemingly stop working if the battery voltage drops below about 11.5v. Could be the alternator failed to cut in, but did when the vehicle was stopped and restarted.

That's interesting and easy to check that its charging. Voltmeter across the battery, should head towards 14.7Volts when running?

Or you may have a bad earth connection for the power steering motor and getting an intermittent voltage drop across the corrosion. It may share an earth point with the heater plugs, relay. That's why you loose both.

Also worth checking the larger fuses/fuseable links close to the battery on the positive terminal/lead.

Will do volt checks when i get chance, was at my mates other day, started engine and he said it was sounding rough, like a growl, sounds to be coming from alternator so that could be it why im getting eml coming on and steering didnt work, if alternator is getting to end of its life.
