Hiya,

A person (not mentioning any names) has put a timer dial onto my glowworm boiler.

Ok, I will try and explain what they did. The wire just came down from the boiler to a flat surfaced socket on the wall underneath. They cut the wire in half, drilled a 4 plug socket onto the wall, then from this socket the wire went into the flat white square on the wall.

The timer dial went into the put up socket drilled to the wall, then another plug comes out of the timer switch up into the boiler.

I have phoned the housing, and they are coming out monday. Am I in trouble for allowing someone to do this?

Your insights needed - what do I tell them on monday the boiler person, as I have been to the corgi website and it is illegal to diy if you are not registered. By my phoning this shows that I am worried about the safety of this.

Hoping you can all help.

Sergiev

i assume that you have no previous "timer" ?

i can not comment on how it has been wired, but in essence you are saying that they have wired a time switch to your boiler. this being the case they have just saved you money, becuse it will (when set right) turn the boiler off when you are asleep, and back on just before you get up (so you save money on fuel)

you mean "something" like*

you should also have a room stat "something" like the one below*

as when the boiler is on it will turn it off when the room reaches the temperature you have set it at, again this saves money

Corgi, are "to with the boiler and GAS", not the electrical side of it, as for being in trouble that depends on what "housing" (who ever they are) say, why did you call them?

*other makes are available

Hiya,

No it did not have a boiler just a switch in the front room to turn on or off. The person just cut the boiler wire in half and then fitted it...I am a council tenant, so it is not for me or anyone else to mess around like that with the electrics/gas. It was already done when I arrived back home.

I phoned the housing (council) for them to come out to see if it was legal and also safe, as I have a few people telling me that it could blow and is not safe.

Regards
