Glue Gun Recommendation

If you need to stick large pieces of wood together permanently then I can recommend Lumberjack glue 5 or 30 mins setting times.

5 mins set, that's very interesting

Total waste of time for serious wood work projects in my opinion, turn the central heating up to much and it all falls apart

It depends on what you are gluing.

I normally use mine to act as a rapid "clamp" whist I wait for (gap filling) adhesives to set. I find it an extremely useful tool. The biggest downside is the fact that the glue line is very thick, eg. if you glue to faces of MDF together the glue line is 0.3?mm thick.

Yea, I was mainly interested in the possibility of a good strong bond that gave you a little time to work your pieces into position then went off without the need for clamping. But hot glue doesn't seem to be it.

Speed of heating. The degree of leaking. Glue stick size. Capacity size if not cordless and you need to unplug it and carry it over to the object to be glued. Dual temperatures. Continuous rating...

At the lower, non professional, end of the market, I agree that I cannot see much difference between a £10 gun and a £20 gun.

Hi all,
Looking to buy a glue gun. Never used one before, want to have a little play around with some woodworking projects, shelving, cupboard doors etc. Really I want to see how strong the bond is, how it finishes, and how long it takes to go off. All I can see is that they come in 7mm and 11mm, the latter is probably what I want, but what else should I look for? Are there different grades of glue? Haven't really found the info on the web. And I would think twice about spending anything over £40. Any tips and recommendations gratefully received.

I have mid range 11mm at 180 watts.
Carpet fitter friend uses the larger high glue rate guns which take small cylinders of glue about 43mm diameter.There is also a 15mm model.
There are general purpose clear sticks and white woodworking sticks.
You won’t get a decent one for £40

I went for a Bosch gun in the end.

But I've also picked up one from lidl today, it's semi cordless and £7.99!. Ergonomics are good, and the spec's are similar to others twice and three times the price.
