I'm off to Barcelona for a long weekend. At what temperature should I leave the CH thermostat in this kind of weather? My room stat goes all the way down to 5 degrees but that sounds too low to me. I just want to be sure the pipes don't freeze - the loft is insulated and the pipes are lagged and I'm happy to leave everything on 24h/24h but I don't want an enormous bill as a result. I'm thinking about 10 degrees.

Normally I would say set it at 10c to ensure nothing freezes but given the current temperatures, I would say around 15c to ensure that the fabric of your home doesn't get too cold and then takes an age to warm up again... Unless you have a modern programmable room stat with a holiday mode on it where it will turn on your heating one day before you return to ensure that you are nice and warm again, in which case I would say 10

Look out for the pick pockets. i would leave the system set at 12c. but your idea of 10 should be ok...enjoy
