I'm going to be travelling on the following roads on tuesday (the day after bank holiday). Doncaster, South Yorkshire to Eccleshall, Staffs.

A628
M67
M60 (south of manchester)
M56 (past man airport)
A556 to the M6 south
M6 south to J15.
A519 to eccleshall.

The route itself is pretty easy, and I have done it before on a weekend, but any advice for travelling during the week? The day after bank holiday? Last time I cobbled a route together across the A50 for the way back because they decided to shut the M6! Might I be better going down the M1 and across the A50?

I'm paranoid because I have to be there for 12:00. The basic route is 2 and a half hours the manchester way. Am I best avoiding the M60 during the week?

Any advice welcome.

Oh, and do the speed cameras at 50MPH actually work on the M60? I accidentally did 70 last week  Stupid place to put speed cameras.

Cheers lads. The plan is to go the route I've been before - around manchester, but allow an extra hour or more for the journey. I discovered Keele services, just before J15 M6, where you can sit above the motorway and watch the cars go by, while eating a KFC meal. I shall sit there until 20 mins before i have to be at my destination. I'll make sure to take a paper to read, and some refreshments in case I get stuck in traffic! :)

My missus worked at Little Chef at Keele services in 1984 when it caught fire...she insists she was not in charge of the omlette....

Apparently the bridge over the mway was burning & bits dropping off, and cars were still driving under until an artic driver parked his waggon across the carriageways!

He'd be locked up for that now. Causing an obstruction. Not to mention, have the living **** beaten out of him by passing motorists.
