Golf noise

When you get the old pads out, pop the stainless anti rattle shims and clean the crap out from underneath them (y)
I like to use ceramic brake grease to coat any moving surfaces, including the back of the pads.

PS.....still not convinced about the bearing drone! Has it gone away?

Ok..update it's the wheel bearings that are noisy. ..mind u pads are well worn , need replacing, mechanic told me to get wheel bearing and pads, do job in one go..so what's a good make of wheel bearing , gonna replace complete hub,..eurocarparts have 50% sale, but only got a company called "aftermarket" which are relatively good price..they got "fag" make but bloody expensive lol.any suggestions?

Are we dealing with the rear bearings here? Certainly they come with the hub, and the central bolt is BLOODY tight :eek:
I wouldn't worry about the bearing make, but FAG and GKN are very good.

Time to dive into the piggy bank mate, but the discs and pads will be replaced for nowt as they have to be shifted in the first place.

I have had excessive noise from budget tyres in the past on my Octavia.

We have been incredibly lucky with our Honda. Original wheel bearings all tight & noise-free @125K. Tyres, pads, one new pair of discs one new set of blades (Bosch Aerotwin, very good!) and a set of rear suspension bushes over the 9 years we've had the car. The only MOT "failure" was a blown lamp.

Have I jinxed it now? :(
 
I had honda , before this go r 8 years, was very reliable, think it had same clutch, original bearings etc..was 2004, model, solid , reliable unlike ****e nowadays

Yeah, we're still on all the original shocks, clutch etc....I forgot we did also change the battery. But all the parts that have failed are hose you expect to replace due to WAT.

It is astoundingly reliable. It was put up on the ramp recently to show us the underside and the guy said "I can see you've had new shocks and a spring...."
"No," we said, "they're all original."
Cue gobsmacked expression...
 
I had an 8th gen Civic a few years ago, while it was very reliable, the body panels & paint were very thin, the clutch pedal clicked incessantly (I eventually cured this), the FM radio reception was dreadful (kept dropping to mono even in strong signal areas) & occupants received agonising static shocks when exiting. I'm talking right up to the shoulder that ached for an hour or so afterwards.
I only kept it for 6 months.
That said, the engine was excellent (2.2 Diesel).
 
Just an update , was wheel bearings, replaced both front , all good now. Nice car , drives really nice n smooth..no noise now..
