Granite hearth

Hi
We currently have a granite fireplace hearth that is level with the floorboards.

We are going to be having some new flooring fitted over the floorboards (Karndean) which will mean the granite sits lower than the floor.

Would it be possible to get a new granite hearth and fit it safetly over the top of the existing one? I'm guessing taking up the current one in one piece is nigh on impossible.

Alternatively, could tiles be fitted over the granite?
