Hi folks, I have a Grant Vortex Pro oil boiler, it's about 2.5 years old and has been working flawlessly.

A few days ago, during its morning HW burn I heard a very loud click from the boiler. I've monitored it and it's pretty consistent, and quite worrying.

The behaviour:
- The boiler starts at its scheduled time on HW cycle. Boiler starts up cleanly with a slight click from the solenoid as the burner kicks in.
- Between 5 and 8 minutes after the burner starts, the boiler makes a very loud click. Similar to the sound an RCD makes when it trips, but perhaps a little louder.
- The click does not seem to affect the burner - it continues to burn occasionally the loud click occurs after the burner has shut down (due to HW cylinder thermostat closing)

Although the performance of the boiler seems unaffected, it shouldn't be making such a loud clicking sound. It's quite hard to tell whether the noise is coming from the burner or the control panel above but I think it's from the burner.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

First assuming it was commissioned by a Grant registered engineer and has been serviced at correct intervals there is a 10 year warranty on the vortex pro.
If not under warranty what model? There are quite a number!

It has a five year warranty and I'm in conversation with Grant; I just wondered if anybody had seen something similar that could help me.

The model is Vortex Utility 15-26.

I listened closely to the boiler at the last heating cycle, and I thought I detected a bit of a whistle noise at the same time as the click - almost like a pressure release valve or some other gas escaping. It was very quick though and I'm not sure of this.

Assuming it's a standard heat only boiler (no sealed system kit) the burner is only thing that can make a noise.
We are Grant registered installer's have fitted well over 600 Grant engineers have been to grand total of one!
So if you do have a problem your unlucky.
If Grant are dealing with it let them crack on and stop worrying.

Could the click be a pressure release valve operating?
How is the pressure gauge reading?
Is there any discharge from the valve?
