You have legally to be competent to work on a boiler.
If you can't get and follow the proper instructions, I think you'd fail on that score.
APart from the MI there's all the stuff boiler engineers know from their general knowledge and experience you haven't got. Specific questions are ok; asking for someone to write you a book, won't get you far.

Absolutey classic LMAO, a sparky, commonly known as a Plumber with his brains knocked out, think I've just wet my pants a bit you wouldn't believe how many wiring jobs on central heating I have had to sort out, why, because "a sparky" wired it.
