have the kitchen floor to grout tomorrow.. but I might have to do it in stages ( bad back.. )
is it ok to do half the floor and then do the other half the day after?

Fancy seeing you here.

Well that's exactly what I'm in the middle of doing on my kitchen floor, and did in my bathroom (walls - floor was small enough to do in one go). Seemed to be no problem 'blending' new grout with the previous day's.

That's my experience anyway. I'm no tiler, mind.

great.. it's part to do with my bad back and part to do with having to re-locate the stuff in the kitchen from one corner to the other.. ( bin, buckets, tile cutter etc.. )..
if I can do one half and then swap it over then it'll make it easier..

hiya cj, what size is your kitchen? 150 / 160 meters?

the problen with SOME grouts is that they are very temprametal, meaning if you make up a batch and thendo another, i.e. next day to finish it COULD look slightly different?

it may work fine no probs, but id bite the bullet, clear the whole floor get it all done as fast as poss, if your worried about the grout drying too quick as you work get your sponge ready and clean in stages, keep the grout in your bucket moving inbetween, saves you having to do the whole job 2 times.

it's mainly my back.. after about an hour on my hands and knees, or sat down and leaning to one side or the other I have to stop and lie flat for about half an hour.. so I didn't want to slop it all on and squeeqy it into the cracks if my back then goes and it dries on the top of the tiles..

how much you got to do tho fella?

it's about 3m x 3m ish.. with a bit of a coridore into the doorway.. so about 10m².. with 330 x 330 tiles..

you'd think they would do grout in a tube for silicone guns by now.. make it so much easier to do big tiles and make for a lot less wiping of the tiles too..

I've still got to mix the stuff then though.. and try and squeeze it into the tube...

if it was ready miked in a tube, just cut the nozel end off and away you go..
could make it in toothpaste style tubes as well for smaller jobs....

any reason you can't use coloured silicone as grout? surely as it's waterproof and flexible it would be better than a hard cement based product..? ;)

no reason at all, but bear in mind the extra cost, a 20kg grout bag is £9 ish, depending where you go, for the same amount in silicone i would guess at £100 ish, plus the fact that you have to make sure its 300% clean and that you have to then leave the room to cure, and if you get it wrong even slightly anywhere it would look rubbish.
