Hi all, I have the builders here at the moment and I just wanted to ask folks if this is a good finish. There are several imperfections, pin holes and the top layer looks very thin to me.

Would you say this is done to a professional standard? Not sure if I’m right to flag and ask these all to be corrected?

I’ve already pointed out some more obvious imperfections which he has sanded back and painted over but these issue remain

Thanks

I am sorry you haven't received any replies. I have come on to the forum looking into experiences with GRP flat roofs. There is some not so good news it seems.

My GRP flat roof is leaking after 4 years. Got patched up but then another leak appeared straight after so I am suspecting the whole roof.

Call up a roofing guy and as soon as I mentioned GRP roofing he says "I don't do GRP ... nothing but trouble ... nothing wrong with felt ... all I do is rip them up and replace them with felt".

So, not a direct response but I think you are right to query and maybe you can get a second local opinion.

But from my untrained eye, looking at your photos there are just some minor imperfections in the top coat. The top coat resin layer does provide some protection but it is the fibre glass underneath that is the main water barrier. On an uneven surface there is bound to be some minor imperfections in a painted surface. Perhaps a second coat can be applied?

Will look forward to hearing from some experts

Im not a roofer but I used to get GRP done for orangeries I used to manufacture, so have some knowledge

the jobs I had done did tend to look a bit thicker to be fair.

Its hard to know whether its just the gel coat thats shy or the resin coat on the matting -if its the gel coat its probably fine

since the guy hasd been back and sanded and recoated some areas, it seems he doesnt mind sorting out issues....although that mightve been incentive to get paid
