I'm looking to project manage my single storey extension and use several subcontractors. Do I have any H&S responsibilities for the contractors or do they have their own?

If I do have responsibilities what do I have to do?

You're not the employer so I would say not, your the client. You may be responsible in the same way as you would be for anyone coming on to the property and being injured under your duty as a owner/occupier.

You're not a business so the rules don't apply.

Your individual trades are responsible for their own health and safety, and others affected by them, unless there is something inherently dangerous you are aware of as the owner/occupier. No different to getting a sparkie in to do the electrics as the plumber service the boiler.

Make sure they have suitable PL insurance.

That's exactly what I needed, thanks.

Have they been reading diynot threads?
