Hi. I have just installed 50 odd ceiling lights that take MR16 50mm 40 degree bulbs. I've seen these used elsewhere, and hated the way the beam is so narrow resulting in light and dark patches. Against my better judgement I got 40 degree bulbs, hence I now have the same problem.

What alternatives are there that fit my MR16 fitting and have a much wider angle?

I have seen LED bulbs that offer >100 angle, but are LED bulbs any good? I need dimable ones.

Thanks

What are my options if I want to stick with halogens?

Thanks
Rajesh

They are called downlights. Did you not wonder why they are called that

You do not have any options other than to use lights that are designed for room lighting. That will mean getting your ceilings made good and replastered.

PS Did you do the maths on how much electricity you wil use. 50 x 50watts

Thats 2.5kilowatts. That is the same as having an electric kettle boiling all the day. Or a tumble dryer running non-stop.

No wonder the polar bears don't have any ice to stand on any more.
