Why would you put sockets on a lighting circuit? Are you referring to those funny little sockets that need special plugs intended for lights only?
Anyone got any links to look up different types of lighting sockets? To be honest I've always just bought the MK ones from B&Q, not sure what type they are without looking for the small print.
its fairly common practice to put 5A (the 2A versions are not usually shuttered and therefore unsuitable for domestic use) round pin sockets on a lighting cuircuit for lamps controlled from lightswitches
Right, yeah I've seen this done a couple of times but always thought that if I was to do that I would just wire another circuit. Found an excellent link to explain SES etc lampholders, understand now.

Having read it through, not sure whether the consensus is that they can or can't be used on a 10A circuit actually, but at least I now know what type of lampholders we are talking about.
