The chimney has been removed from the roof and sealed. I don't see any dampness coming through in the future. When I removed the hearth there was no noticeable damp issues. The laminate and underlay also had no signs of dampness and the original hearth had carpet glue to it, which also had no signs of dampness in 7 years, despite the chimney being removed only 3 years ago.
Im going to go ahead with it without damp proofing, worst case scenario is I hammer the leveling compound out and DPM it, will cost £35 in materials. But im going to take the gamble and do without it.
