In the book it says when replacing pressure relief switch drain the boiler but I cant see how. there's a tap at bottom of heatslave tank but nothing for the boiler. do I disconnect the flexi pipe to the red expansion vessel & let it drain from there??

Open the existing pressure valve and wait for it to stop running. You can then remove it and fit the new one.

Thanks mate sounds simple so will try that but do you know if there is a drain point for the boiler for future jobs I've just had a right game had to take the braided pipe off at the point it connects to the heat exchanger as the pipe was solidly blocked at that end and could not push anything through it so water wasn't getting into the expansion box. I can't see one so i guess it would have to be drained from the end that goes into the expansion box.....as long as its not blocked up again.

Often enough there is a drain down cock on the return to the boiler, usually near the boiler itself. However, there is a rubber washer in there of course, and you don't know what condition that's in.
However as you are changing the PRV you can lose the pressure from there as Mr. O suggests.
The braided pipe does connect to the expansion vessel and it's vital that it's clear.
