Help fitting a pump to boost gravity fed hot water

You're an idiot.

Only an idiot will fit a check on an open vented cylinder vent!

That's a little harsh on idiots. Surely even an idiot would check you tube for videos of hot water cylinder explosions before fitting a check valve.

Dan and gaswizzard,

Ok, maybe I am an idiot and/ or a muppet. But the original posted question hasn't been answered by either of you - where & how to properly fit a booster pump in a gravity system?

Slating me is all well and good, and saying "If you knew how to install the pump correctly you wouldn't require a check valve on the open vent" is great, but what is the correct installation point? Where would you place it so that there would be no risk of air suction from the vent pipe? And, I still can't see why there is an issue fitting a check valve on a vent pipe- they don't require much pressure to open in the flow direction so it 'should' be safe. Unless I'm wrong.

I assumed that this forum existed for people to get help from other people, perhaps more experienced than themselves. Please enlighten me, and the original poster, of the correct way to fit a pump in this situation, and why a check valve on a vent is a bad thing! I don't want to plumb badly, and I'm sure you don't want to see people doing it either.

Oh, and obviously I meant for the check valve to face upwards (ie. to prevent air being sucked into the system), not to prevent water ventiing! If anyone even thought I meant the latter, they are the idiots and should sit themselves on the stupid step for 10 minutes!!! :D

I may be daft, but I ain't stupid!

If you shut a door it is no longer open. If you stick a valve on an open vent it is no longer open. What if the valve gets stuck shut?

Yes this forum is to help. But not to help make dangerous situations by giving stupid advice like sticking a check valve on the vent of an OPEN VENTED cylinder.

Yes the clue is in the name!!!!

As to the solution. The op needs to install a flange to his cylinder has shown in the pump's instructions.

Don't count on it.

And I would be careful accusing professionals of not knowing their onions at the same time as demonstrating categorically that not only do you not know your onions, but you have been smoking them as sure as eggs is eggs.

I nominate your contributions today for the Darwin awards.

As I said earlier you should read the instructions, this is from s and t monsoon pumps

just logged on to get some info about booster pumps and all I find is people spitting their dummies out, calling each other naughty children and handbags a 50 paces !!!.

I think I will just call a plumber !
