The easy way, is to keep the old thermostat in place; moving the brown wire in terminal 1 (with power safely isolated), and placing it in terminal 5, along with the grey wire.

The less easy way, would be to decommission your thermostat and remove (or isolate) the wiring. If you want to go this way, we need to trace where the thermostat cable goes, whether that is behind the programmer, or directly to the wiring centre.
Some photos of that wiring may help us determine how viable this is.

Tried chasing back to wiring centre and programming plate wires with multimeter without any luck
Chased the programming wires back to wiring center ok with multimeter
But no joy with thermostat
So connect live and switched live together
1 & 5
Then blanking plate overm

Yes, that should bridge out the stat - put those together in one terminal block and isolate the black (neutral) wire in another terminal block.

I will have a proper look at the wiring later.
Is there an FCU for the boiler near to the programmer, sometimes cable joints can be hidden behind there?

Looking at the wiring center, it appears to be the grey connected to the brown of the motorised valve. Just depends on where the brown live from 2 channel is in the wiring center, but probably best linking the 2 wires and blank plate over?
