hip to gable loft conversion

Hes replied with today

[/i]"I have been to see the structual engineer in essence he does not see a problem with a gable conversion. He points out that the BCO officer has a right to ask for inspections of the existing house foundations.

We would only know when the work commenced.

I have no reason to believe that the wall is defective by my inspections when I visited the house"

are they going to ask me to dig up my newly laid tarmac?
Or any other way of checking foundations.

Unless you have a drawing showing the existing foundations or your engineer and inspector are familiar with the foundations for your house (actually quite likely if your house is typical of the area) then the only way to inspect foundations is to expose them. Doesn't happen that often though for loftys though and in anycase it won't be a massive hole just big enough to get a spade down to see how wide/deep they are.
