Hive Mini & Blown Boiler PCB

It did not take me long to find details on the boiler
It's actually the ultracom2 - GC 47-019-10

Really appreciate all the responses!

I can see much cheaper refurbished PCB's online. We're looking to get an extension next year & have been advised to get a new more powerful boiler at the same time. With that in mind do you think a refurbished part might be ok to last say 12 months?

Just thinking of ways to help reduce the financial impact!

Agreed, it's very clear. Obviously installer didn't know that the dual channel hive is internally bridged and sends a 240V SL.
Rab, 4 tags on the back plate, twin channel. Only a fool would assume it is not 240 volts on NO or NC since there is no C
Cheek to say receiver gubbed

Hit 'n' miss, I would only ever condone using a refurbished ( probably just an old one that came out of a working boiler) if it was supplied by a qualified installer who knew where it was coming from and fitted them at their risk.

For sure @ DP - some people just won't take responsibility for their actions and then blame something else, first it's the boilers 'old' PCB and then it's the HIVE. The real biscuit take is they then did it twice and blew each board with a schoolboy error and then had a cheek to tell the client to go to HIVE or citizen's advice, I mean FFS!! That's just mad mental .... I'd be after him after all that, bet he even charged for his time.

Honestly @TheEraser , even with the "the receiver should only be sending 24v" comment - no receiver even sends 24v - they are either a 240v SL or they are dry (0V) contacts, they don't 'send' anything they only throughput the signal from the boiler. He owes you the cost of 2 boards plus any time he charged for - it's a full refund IMO.

Can you tell I'm a little annoyed, ar$ehole so called tradesmen like that really get me going ;)

Yeah he did charge £60 plus £181 for the PCB. He did say he'd come back and fit the replacement hive & do the boiler service for another £65.

Initial quote was £115 to fit hive & service the boiler.

To be honest it's the 2 PCB's that hurts as that's £362. Plus the £60 means £422 total, just to get me back to were I was before anything was done....ouch!

I think you just need to play hard ball if he moans about it. Tell him you'll get an independent survey and HIVE in but you have been made aware that the HIVE is working as it should and that it was all him that -

a) should have known that it was the wrong HIVE for the boiler and if he then wasn't familiar with it, shouldn't have even attempted it and should be anywhere near boiler controls
b) continued on regardless and then wired it incorrectly and the correctly working HIVE sent a 240v SL into the 24V low voltage side of the PCB and fried it
d) thennnnnnnnn ...... he went and feckin did it again!!
e) then blamed the PCB, the boiler, the HIVE, the weather, the dog, his granny and the goldfish for his incompetence
f) then charged you for the pleasure

Tell him you'll be talking to citizen advice, not about the HIVE but about his incompetence and asking them how the small claims process works to get your money back, this is exactly the kind of stuff that the small claims court loves to get their teeth into.

Did he invoice you?

Unfortunately not! £115 cash and £60 bank transfer. He did say he would send an invoice for the PCB that hasn't come through.

He was originally going to send it so I could ask Hive to cover the cost.

So I could chase him again for that first...

For what purpose?
Unless your house is already vast, it won't need a more powerful boiler for heating.
and if someone has suggested a combi can be used to supply an extra bathroom, they are deluding themselves.

I was told my current boiler will struggle to heat 2 showers & 12 radiators (currently have 1 shower & 6 radiators). Also because it's now 11 years old. Do you think it still might be ok?

Also, I've ordered this hive which is for combi boilers: https://www.googleadservices.com/pa...WKAxW7YEEAHVeyD_YQzzkoAHoECAoQDA&nis=7&adurl=

Can I just double check this is the right one?
