Hive or Tado

Following discussion on this thread, I'm looking to buy either a Hive or Tado system. The system will be connected to my existing Glow Worm Ultimate 30C boiler.

Whichever system I get, I initially want a wireless thermostat to replace my room thermostat in the lounge, and a programmable TRV I can install in my office to trigger the boiler when the rest of the house i.e. lounge is up to temperature but the office is not.

I prefer the look of the Hive from an aesthetic point and it also seems the more established brand, however I see it doesn't support OpenTherm which the Tado does. I don't believe my current boiler supports this anyway (?) so I don't think that's an immediate concern. Are there any other considerations as to which system I should go for?

Tado is withdrawing OpenTherm & BUS support from the UK imminently, but you're correct that your boiler doesn't support it anyway. Personally I'd go with "neither". I much prefer the Salus system.

If you've only got one TRV head, triggering one room when the rest of the house is up to temp, won't the rest of the house be in danger of overheating? Depending on the quality of your "manual" TRVs of course...

What Salus system would you suggest?

I guess there is that possibility when it comes to my lounge and dining room. The rest of the house consists of TRVs which tend to be set low anyway, or radiators without TRVs (for example towel rails in the bathrooms) which I'm happy to run all the time anyway.

Do you think I'd be better also fitting electronic TRVs in the lounge and dining room to prevent any risk from overheating? Given my current room stat lives in the lounge, would it be a better idea to do away with the room stat completely and have electronic TRVs only?

There is only one Salus system...

In an ideal world you'd put electronic heads on every radiator, but you're suggestion may work as a compromise. You can always do the minimum and add to it later anyway.
