I tried this, so removed the wire from 1 and put it in the live connection in the receiver. I removed the boilers own wireless receiver and powered it all back on...I was again unable to get the heating to come on from the Hive thermostat.....its very odd.
you will have to make a link where you removed this, Com and NO will have to be linked
So, based on what you have said, this is how I should be wiring the receiver. I'm confused why connection 1 in the receiver would not be used at all. This would leave 1, 2 & 4 in the receiver empty.

Picture 1 shows my current wiring, which is working as long as the Ideal wireless receiver remains connected.
Picture 2 shows the Ideal wireless receiver
Picture 3 shows the back of the wireless receiver - you can see the Molex connector that joins it to the PCB
Picture 4 is a close up of the connection
I hope this shows what is currently going on, and will help work out how I can get this going without the need for the Ideal receiver (which then requires the wireless thermostat to remain operational - set to max temp and always on)

Have you tried unplugging the molex on the rf receiver?
Yes - without the receiver connected nothing works.
is there a wiring diagram on the receiver ?
There is nothing much to it as it just plugs in via a Molex and uses the OpenTherm wiring in my boiler. (I wish Hive was OT this would have been so simple)

If you look on the installation page of that link, point 3 says remove the link connector and keep in a safe place, if you have it refit it and it should work now
amazing!!! I can't believe I missed that. What a fool! I'll give this a go and report back, though I am sure this will do the trick now.
