HKC vs Orisec alarms

I had an Orisec installed last week. Panel is W-CP-40K. Not happy. External siren is pathetic. Wouldn't scare a mouse.
Remote fob won't disarm the system from the drive, so I think I've switched it off, open the garage, then the garage PIR sets off the alarm. Every time.
Paul at Orisec can't suggest a solution. Guess it's just the 30m range that the remote can't cover through three walls.
Having said that, the garage PIR is 35m away and gets through 4 walls.
Anyway... looks like it will be getting ripped out and my money back (Paid by Cr.Card and 14 days distance selling rules apply).
Looking at Pyronix now but my sparky has other suggestions for when he's here Monday.

I thought Orisec only sell and deal with trade?
Sounds like you are a diy install?
Ah just read your last sentence.... is your sparky providing the equipment?
Is the external bell wireless?
If there is problems you can add a wireless expander in between detection to boost range.

I had it installed by a local alarm company. I've told them to uninstall it. Our sparky also supplies alarms and will advise on an alternative Monday. External bell is mains wired but wireless signal. I'm aware of extender - spoke to Orisec's tech manager Paul yesterday. He was fine, but said extender won't solve the issue if remote fob can't reach the panel without it (?). He didn't have a solution. Surely a remote can span 30m when their PIR can do 35?

? Don't orisec bellboxes ( model depending ) act as a repeater ? Solving the fob issues

The live bell box is on the side of the house. Installer said it was better to be closer to the panel here, plus there was an existing live from the previous box in the same location. On the front of the garage is a dummy box.

The live box is about the same distance from me in the drive with the remote as is the panel. If it were switched with the dummy AND it could act as a repeater that would be an idea, BUT... if the remote struggles to reach the panel from closer than the garage wall, the bell box/repeater may do also? The garage PIR is further away from the panel than either remote of garage wall with box.

Having said all that... came home just now. Didn't bother to turn off the alarm with the remote until inside the house. Remote would not turn off the alarm 3m from the panel. I'd only ever turned ON the alarm with the remote previously.

So, looks like the remote only turns the system on, not off, whatever the distance.

This is why I hate wireless alarms, a lazy installation ends up giving a good brand a bad name. All wireless alarms no matter how good will always fail somewhere, 10 years ago there was no choice, all cables were hidden therefore giving the appearance of being wireless and very little went wrong until a rodent got hungry. Wireless alarms are better today but are not suitable everywhere.

10years ago ....? I remember scantronic 4600 and 4700 being touted for £1000plus in the late 80s mostly by sales pressure companies...wireless been around for a fair few years, but you can’t beat a hardwired system , at least 20/ 30years down the line you can still stick something on the end of that cable ...

So you had an existing bell wired so why not install a wired bell if cable is there from bell to panel?
Your remote has not bee programmed right. Is it the 2 button or 4 button?
Does the installer do programming through laptop?
I highly rate orisec and their tech is superb.........this sounds like the installer has had a few problems and not contacted tech to help.

With the alarm unset, it just went off when I opened the garage door!

The installers of tomorrow won't have a clue how to hard wire a system, which is a real shame. A lot of the skill and pride of fitting a proper wired system with all cabling hidden is disappearing. Wireless has its place but I think alot of companies now see it as a one size fits all solution rather than for the odd time you come across a job that genuinely can't be hard wired. I still try and cable all our installs where I can.

HKC is good and reliable enough Orisec also looks good but is too new for me to try as I prefer to watch others & wait to see what happens?
The best out & out wireless technology at the moment in my opinion is Visonic Powermaster!
Visonic have been doing wireless alarms since the early 1970s so they should know how to design them! With incredible wireless distance (when compared with Pyronix Enforcer in recent test) & without doubt industry leading battery life (devices using CR123As) nothing else comes close. Visonic seem to get a lot of bad press from some installers who compare the latest tech from manufacturers with very early Visonic technology without having even tried Powermaster PowerG. The number of companies I have come across on takeovers who do unnecessary stuff like
switch off wireless supervision is unreal! Clearly they have no understanding of wireless and the importance of this function on these systems!
So in summary go for the V

firstly, many customers wont allow you to take up floorboards etc or at least not pay for the labour involved.

Orisec unlike many other manufacturer bend over backwards if you have an issue to get it resolved, that doesn't mean its riddled with issues.

Orisec wireless keypads, wireless bells and a wireless repeater/expander/ bridge unit can be used as a repeater as long as its powered from a 12V supply.

As for wireless fobs on Orisec I have seen them work well to the CP40 panel through thick stone walls and no repeaters.

Like many wireless installations is all about installing correctly and in optimal signal areas.

Its one of the few panels with frequency hoping technology too.

The wireless Orisec bell isn't quiet by any means, although the panels built in speaker is relatively quiet compared to some.

If opening the door set off the alarm when unset, then sounds like the installer may not have done his job properly??
