Home telephone/broadband...

- If you toddle off to +net they will bill you for the remaining period and you'll be arguing why you are paying for 2 providers.

Totally agree with that, but as things stand I have no contract as it's been cancelled, and have so far been told I need to rejoin them with a new contract. I'll know more when I ring them later.

But you do have a contract - you didn't terminate it did you? They didn't terminate within the terms did they?

btw - contracts are terminated when they are ended. Cancelling a contract makes it as if it never was.

OK, so... my account is also flagged as inactive which tells the system the contract is cancelled. A "Last Bill" has been generated (which I haven't seen) totalling a couple of hundred (which is itself wrong given the remaining term X monthly cost), but this has been waived because of the cockup that has happened. I explicitly asked if I am now free to go to another supplier and they confirmed "Yes".

They said for sure it will require a new activation and contract which is subject to the usual lead times, but they would send a mobile router until it is active and would provide compensation afterwards, IF I decided to stay with them.

Stay - seems the best way to get reconnected then ditch them after 24 months if you aren't happy. They are all as bad as each other and plus net is just a sub to BT retail.

Half the problems with QoS are down to Faulty routers, cheap routers or openreach pulling the wrong cable at the exchange.

were you on super fast 1 or 2. You get a better router with 2 and its pennies more.

Do you work for Vodafone :D

Yeah I know they all use BTs cabling; I use my own network kit (Unifi) so all good on that front, but which restricts me to suppliers who allow it in the first place.

I've said I'll think about it and ring them back tomorrow. I might say I'll only rejoin with them if they honour the original monthly cost and original end date. Not sure I fancy starting again for a full 24 months!

No - but I've been around them all and they are all crap if you have a problem - just go with the fastest and cheapest. Since its "new sale" they should be able to discount. There is also an echo and fire stick deal going on as I've just renewed one myself.

entries on a computer file do not cause a contract to be cancelled.

It is as ineffective as if you wrote a note in your diary, or on the back of your hand.

Telecom companies are surprisingly incompetent in their business systems and processes.

I have Vodafone at work and at home. Had them just over two years now. It works well….
Great - I’ve just put the mockers on myself! Mrs Motties mum just called her on her mobile saying that she's getting no ring tone when she calls our home phone. I’ve checked and we have no dial tone. Just spoke to Omar at Vodafone, he had me open up the camera on my iPhone and show him my master socket, then I had to take the cover off and connect direct to the test socket. He identified a fault on the line. It’s been reported to Openreach and should be fixed within 72 hours. Fingers crossed they don’t cancel my account!

Well, that was quick and pain free. Just had a 'How did we do' text from Vodafone so I checked my line. All working now, I’m impressed but I suppose that is more to do with Openreach rather than Vodafone.

They sometimes disconnect you while carrying out another connection. In some exchanges this goes round in circles if there aren’t enough connection points.
