Hi,

I'm wanting to hook an out building to the national grid. I've contacted the national grid who came out and said that it would be £1.2k plus cost of cable to actually do the connection and £3.5k to dig a trench to the property and then make good after (trench needs to be on a driveway). Thing is, I also need to put water and waste to the property. Can I dig the trench myself and then put all three of these things in the trench?

What would people recommend here? I'm more than happy to dig the trench to save a few quid but how do I coordinate water, waste and electricity supplies which are likely all at different locations and have their own requirements?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated here

Cheers

Yes you can,

but install a duct for the electricity cable and then the cable can be pulled in.

Getting the necessary fall along the waste ( sewage ? pipe will complicate the matter.

At the street you will probably have to split the single trench into three separate trench to reach each of the services in the street

It is highly improbable that you will be connected to the National Grid.

I think you mean your local distribution network

So in summary, I should get a professional to arrange/do all of this? If so, who would be best, a general builder from check a trade?

Many thanks

A company that specialise in groundworks. Best to use personal recommendations rather than an on-line directory.
Many of those only require ££ to be listed plus a "review" from their mother in law!
