hot air balloon ride..

It’s fantastic, go for it; but, comparively, it’s pretty mild. What you need to do then is the light aircraft flight, glider flight (that’s awesome), parachute jump & sky dive; but do the chute jump first as you will never ****ee yourself as much as that first jump into thin air! Also find time to fit in the Ferrari/Lambo/Maso/Scuby track day, truly great stuff.

Safety is paramount on all these “red letter” days & you will not be under much risk (but you will have to sign a disclaimer) but I’m now an addict & they give a great adrenalin rush; if your numbers up what an absolutely great way to go, I’ love em!

bought a flight on ebay, 150 pounds, me and her, a bargain, over the cotswolds, woke up the next day, sober, on no!

Ended up selling it back on ebay, 3months later, for 80 quid, but the thrill/anxiety did me the world of good, unfortunatly, my a,rse went.

I cannot fly because of it. i am bad with anxiety.

ok i give up... i won't go in a hot air balloon !!!!! ever!!!

In that case I'll give you some advise. The biggest risk you can take is to take no risk at all. I.e. go for it and trust the pilot to give you a good safe flight.
I have paraglided and hang glided and it is magic.

I dont think you will have to worry about the gas running out.
The amount of hot air you produce i doubt the balloon will ever come down ;)

I went up in one a few years ago. The pilot allowed two rather fat women to join at the last moment and then burned a lot of gas getting all the weight up to about 1000 ft. Next thing the wind blew us over Blackburn where we stooged around going nowhere because Blackburn is in a sheltered bowl. Eventually we ran out of gas and the pilot had to drop the balloon on a small patch of waste ground in an Asian area. Within seconds we were surrounded by about 300 screaming over-excited Asian kids, the other passengers were horrified as it felt like we were missionaries arriving in India. It was all over the TV and newspapers the next day, that was when I discovered that the same pilot had been investigated by the CAA for breaking a passenger's leg in a dodgy landing the year before. For anybody in Lancs, it was a big brown balloon with a witch design on the side.

I had one of those 'Red Letter' vouchers for a hot air ballon ride a few years ago.

I had to phone up late the previous evening to see if the weather would be OK to go, then phone again at about 0400 hr in the morning for same reason.
After three cancellations at 0400 hr in the morning I gave up and took the money. The three days of wasted holiday and early mornings I put down to experience.

Cancellations can be a problem but that’s the nature of hot air balloon flight; I got blown off once (Virgin) but it’s a shame you didn’t stick with it as the experience is definitely worth it; the thing that stuck me was it was so eerily quiet, apart from the gas blasts that is.

it's not the gas running out that you need to worry about, it's the yankee friendly fire! or the flight attendant bailing out!

Are you comparing travelling in a hot air balloon, to travelling in a Zepplin? Hot Air balloons were by far the superior, and safer option, when flight was invented, and still possibly are, as you run out of gas in a balloon, you float gently to Earth (hopefully over land), run out of gas in a plane, different story.

I'm intreagued by an earlier post, I did a parachute jump, then did freefall, was that freefall attached to someone else? or did you go through the regime of obtaining your license to do that?

When I did a parachute jump, from 3,200feet, all I could see under me was sea, I was first out before the professionals, and it was SOOOO BORING!!!!!! At first I couldn't release my toggles to steer, but eventually released them, done a couple of spirals, before someone came on the radio in my ear, slow down, face into wind, so I couldn't see where I was to land..toggled round, went to land on the X, came in heavy on my ass. No bend knees and roll.

The training knocks out of you any exhilleration you might gain from the experience, but being worried about flying in a balloon, that's like saying I don't take the lift, I prefer the stairs.
