Hi
I have a Hotspur wallflame and the small circular glass inspection port on the front service panel has cracked . does anyone know where I could get a glass port or have one made ?
Would it be possible to do without the glass and insert a metal disc instead?

Bloody Hell!! That's got to be 40+ years old mate. Good for you, you must be looking after it.

The original was made of Pyrex glass - you will be hard pushed to find a replacement I would cut a piece of thin metal to size and fit it in its place

You are doing well to keep that loverly old boiler going it is very old and no parts are availible for it it was an interesting wallflame in that it ised a "Beezer" rotary burner, which rotated in the opposite direction to the more common "Kingsway" burner!! (ah those were the days!!) ;)

I can recall fixing this problem with a 2" diameter Wilson sight glass available from Heating Parts specialist, Phone No 01278455391 or E-mail sales@heating-parts. co. uk. The trouble was that the original sight glass was 3" diameter so I had to cut two 3" disc with a two and a half inch dia hole from thin metal to enable the glass to be installed. But be aware that the glass must not touch the metal to avoid it cracking. I used a couple of 2" OD fibre washers to prevent this. The trouble is that if the glass is not fitted it will effect the draught conditions and make it impossible to set the flame correctly. Also be aware that if the burner motor packs up it will be sudden death for your boiler, as they are no longer available

We took one of them out on Monday , Hotspur wallflame as delta T said this one was 40 odd yers old , still working as well !

got scrapped on Tuesday !!

Ah happy days indeed! Fitted many, many Wilson Wallflames as an apprentice in the 70s. Built to last these appliances were.

Hi just to let you know i ran a BSA Hotspur for years and also when the glass broke I simply placed a metal plate over the glass on the outside and a bar between the two retaining studs. Then it can be removed from the front and look through the cracked glass if need to see the flame. It worked like this for years
