I've seen quite a few circling threads about racism in the UK on the forum recently, and what seems to be missing is information.
So here's an invitation to simply post in this thread links to factual information about racism - historical and current, so maybe we can read a bit more history, and not just repeat it.

Here are a few to start:

historical

some thing like 40 to 50,000 people were kidnapped and taken into slavery from cornwall & devon

moors / Arabs used to raid the coast from Spain

ball cocks
Seriously, 17,000? How do you lose that many men fighting trade ships?

The battle of Trafalgar had around 4,500 dead, between both sides. Do you think that these slavers in merchantmen were five times as deadly as Nelson and his crews?

We maybe shouldn't conflate slavery and racism.

Slavery- the subjugation of another, for one's own ends. Deemed ok in the past by the British, not least because it was conveniently believed that the slaves were sub-human and 'not God's chosen ones'. Now illegal. Now seen as despicable in most societies. Yes, most slaves were black.

Racism is the hatred of those not of your race or colour. In 21st C societies, most racism is experienced by non-white minorities.

The two are related, but not synonymous. There is virtually no slavery in Britain at the mo. There is racism.

In my opinion.

I happily acknowledge racism existed and still does. What I don't accept is its proportionally rife in white people in the UK. Its certainly in every culture here jn the UK so we must come together first without colour or ethnicity we unite and then oppose. Every burning smoldering house that doesn't 'appear' to be on fire may need help.
I refer you to another thread implying just because you don't hear of racism it doesn't mean its not there.

You cant have your cake and eat it (y)

Whether you like it or not it has become the norm for most white people to refrain from referring to uncomfortable issues for fear of being labelled as such. The whole 'im not racist i have black friends is just the same as i'm not racist im black .

This was my whole exercise in the other post i have no issue with Black lives per se, but i do also feel strongly we(all groups who do not have a turn on the soap box) should be given the same opportunity. Instead of the advocates of BLM agreeing with me and my request for equality it was twisted to insinuate i am in someway racist or anti black. Really not the case. But it's become the normal triggered response to quell such rational reason giving an irrational response.

The whole message is equality, how can proclaimers of equality disclaim request for equality selectively? There lies the paradox.

Not long ago the police in my area released a campaign on domestic abuse showing a man beating a woman, utterly reprehensible, and when i was a lad i nearly got a kicking myself for stopping a drunk old lorry driver hitting his wife, in fact twice i have, the second time i was sober so i managed him and the situation far better. I have also witnessed a close friend suffer years of abuse by his wife that he attempted suicide, anyway i digress. A few on the facebook thread raised the point 'what about men, they too suffer abuse'. I hadn't witnessed it myself but i bet its also just as apparent in many other forms. These people were not anti women they just had a valid alternate opinion.

Female abuse of male partners tends to be more Psychological than psychical.
My father referred to it as brainwashing by nagging, constant nagging by a woman can grind down mans will to resist.
