I have limited money and I spent quite a bit getting a few roof tiles repaired which made the problem WORSE

I am now thinking to have the whole roof replaced with man made tiles which is going to put me into debt for the next two years. Before I borrow money from the bank can I ask whether it’s worth paying one quarter of the price of a new roof to repair?

For me there are many tiles that are broken and I don’t see any way other than to replace which is an expense I did not anticipate coming to Christmas

Is the roof below terrible and beyond repair? I’m getting quotes of 10 thousand to replace which sounds crazy and I’m not even sure they are doing to do a good job

There is damp in the right hand corner at the far end which had some tiles replaced but I think they made it worse

Generally, leaks will be confined to one or a very few individual slates which can be changed, siliconed, flashbanded or suchlike to get the roof weathertight while you save up for a complete replacement. Or flashing similarly temporary repaired if that is the problem.

This should be relatively cheap, and I would suggest at no more cost than a roofer for 1/2 day or two roofers for two hours each.

Just because you see a broken slate, does not mean that that slate is leaking or needs changing.

The biggest problem is finding a trustworthy reliable roofer.

Whether to whole covering needs replacement will be something for someone to visually assess, not here on a forum. Bear in mind that roofers would love to replace the roof and charge you for it. Again, it comes down to finding a trustworthy firm, alternatively get an independent survey by someone with no interest in any work they may recommend. If getting quotes get at least three.

Whoever you have had on you roof hasn't got a clue! anyone familiar with slate roofs should be able to repair what you have shown me.

But looking at the architecture I guess you are living near the capitol? Good luck

Mmm, indeed when clambering around on an old slate roof without the requisite care one is likely to break more slates than are fixed..

But amen to what dr says; the idiot that stuck that Flashband on has no clue how a slate roof works. Actively encouraging shedding water to go sideways will promote leaking
