Hi,

The ceiling in my lounge has a lot of bumps and cracks noticeable under the wallpaper. The house was built in the late 20's and has latham plaster throughout (I hate that stuff

) .

I have decided that the easiest option is to put plasterboard directly over the existing latham plaster ceiling. Is this ok to do or should make a suspended frame? I don't want the mess and hassle of removing the existing plaster

Thanks,

Gary

under boarding is fine, remember to use long enough fixings! locate the joists by knocking a nail through till you find one, mark it off, the others should be approx 16in or18in centres in old houses.sometimes internal walls can carry joist overlap, this can confuse!

nasty stick bogeys for days on end and constant hoovering for months afterwards   .. how big are the "bumps" to which you refer? if theyre only small or few in number, you might have to knock em off/out carefully unless you wanna bring the whole lot down.
40or 50mm dry wall screws should be sufficient to get thru to the joists.

Good luck.... uugh!!!! i hate that job

hire out a plasterboard lift. its about 30 for the day and makes the job fairly easy even on your own
