I know this sounds like an excuse, and it is, but my wife rules the roost here and she could not give a damn about the character of the place. I'd have kept the coving and the stained glass built in cupboard in one of the alcoves but NO it all had to go! She is allowing me to keep my treasured real fire but not with the 1950's fireplace.
The living room is 10m by 7m and I guess the heaviest things that hang on the walls are the radiators. I take your point about the hollowness of DL and I was not that pleased when I first saw it going up in our extension, but you can (have to in my case) learn to live with it.
I suppose the big question is the difference in price between DL and 'proper' plastering. Has anyone any ideas on this?
