Hi all

I have some 10L tube of white contract paint from around 2017 which are unopened. Will these still be ok to use?

Thinking of using only to do a mist coat on fresh plaster, but if they are going to cause potential issues, I’d rather just bin them all

Thanks

I've got tins that are 20 years old that have been opened and used to touch up, it depends on the quality of the paint and storage conditions.

They are crown/leyland contract white tubs. Been stored in a cool garage

I would give tnem a good stir and unless they are obviously separating, apply on a section of wall.

Metal tins are likely to have rusted and stained the paint. Unopened plastic tubs last well. I'd get a paint mixing wand with a plastic spinner that you can put in an electric drill, to mix it thoroughly.

Let it rest overnight for air bubbles to rise out, and manually stir again with a plastic spatula before use. A spatula can scrape the bottom of the tub, and plastic will not scratch.

Thanks. I will dig out my mixing attachment first the drill and try it out. As I said I only want to use in mist coat, i’ll get some better paint for top coats
