Black sandshoes(plimsoles) with the hope of getting the dearer white tennis shoe in the days before trainers.

I had a pair of 'Red Flash' once.

Does anyone remember public phones with 'Press button A and B'?

Remember the A & B buttons, who could resisit walking past without checking the B button to see if you could get any money out or sticking a lolly ice stick up the slot and trying to get some?

Don't remember the Red Flash but always wanted a pair of 'Green Flash' pumps.
Got up one morning and there they were!
A sparkling white pair of Green Flash pumps with the green sole and the lace ends coloured green.
Oh such joy, wonderment and elation! Christmas, Easter and Birthday all rolled into one!
Got to school, kneeling down in assembly and the kid behind whispers, "Hey conny, the greens coming off your soles."

My dad had whitened my normal pumps and painted the lace ends and soles green!

HOGGY952- you just made me remember "fast food", there were still "Pie&Mash" shops then, hmmm covered with a white sauce from stewed eels and parsley :D

Sounds of the night...loose coupled goods trains, chuffing whistling and clattering, as they take up the slack in a long string of waggons.
Ships sirens, on Manchester ship canal, tugs tooting their replies.
The hum of heavy industry, clattering and banging through the night, long gone now.
Works hooters at start and finish of shift.
Street lighting switching off at approx one am
Milk man delivering milk at five am

We had proper lanterns filled with parafin from little local diy shop:cool: , it sold coal for when the coal delivery man was late or sommat and things you prob couldn't have in a shop now , and they sold stuff to kids that you wouldn't sell to adults now for fear of TS or sommat :D

I used to get ciggies for the whole familly whenever anyone needed some.

Will power is what it's all about, just say to yourself..well I have managed three months, I can manage another three.
I don't think the craving ever goes away, I used to smoke a pipe, if I smell the brand I used to smoke I have to walk away.

That reminds me of that Chris Rea song:

"Every time the cold wind blows

Every time I hear the sound

Late night train shunting down by the river

I remember windy town"
